These characters are: <tt>(</tt>, <tt>)</tt>, <tt>.</tt>, <tt>^</tt>, <tt>$</tt>, <tt>[</tt>, <tt>]</tt>, <tt>{</tt>, <tt>}</tt>, <tt>+</tt> and <tt>*</tt>
